Boulevard 3 End of Life
Boulevard 3 End of Life
Boulevard 3 Theme will reach its End of Life on June 1st 2021 and will no longer be supported. Contact Home Junction Customer Success team for help with transitioning to Boulevard 4.
Our Boulevard 3 theme is approaching it's 6th anniversary! It served us well all these years, but it's time to turn the page. We are excited to move our WordPress themes into a new chapter of their life as we continue to improve the Boulevard 4 platform for all of our customers.
In 2020 we transitioned most of our accounts from Boulevard 3 to Boulevard 4 as part of the phase out process. If you're still running Boulevard 3 theme, no worries - you have plenty of time to schedule your upgrade with Customer Success team.
Why should you upgrade?
All software reach a point where adding incremental improvements is no longer feasible, and more drastic changes needed either to take advantage of new technologies or completely re-invent the service. Such updates marked by major versions like 2, 3, 4 etc and imply "breaking" changes. This means that additional work may be needed to successfully migrate older content to the new format.
A few obvious reasons for an upgrade:
- Boulevard 3 is in a phase-out stage since January 2020.
- Boulevard 3 is no longer in active development and only supported by security updates and fatal error fixes (we only had 3 in 2019).
- Boulevard 4 is in active development with systematic releases that include new features, enhancements, bug fixes and WordPress compatibility updates. There were 7 updates of Boulevard 4 in 2020.
- Some of the newer functionality of our real estate plugins is not supported by Boulevard 3.
- Boulevard 3 only supports PHP 7.2 which will reach End of Life on November 30 2020 thus subjecting older systems to security risks.
What should be your next step?
Contact our Customer Success team and schedule an upgrade. The upgrade process is unintrusive and will not disrupt your current website's function. We copy your existing site onto our staging server and perform all the work offsite. When everything is done, you'll have a chance to go over the new site and review it. Upon approval, we'll deploy your new site to the production server. That's it.
